EMPLOYMENT LAW

The NYC Human Rights Law requires employers to include a good faith pay range in all job advertisements effective November 1, 2022. This law is another step towards pay equality for all New Yorkers and is the latest addition to a suite of protections against discrimination for New Yorkers seeking employment. Any advertisement for a job, promotion, or transfer opportunity that would be performed in New York City is covered by the new law.

The new law requires employers to include a good faith pay range in all job advertisements. This means that paralegal job advertisements in NYC must include a pay range. The law is intended to help eliminate pay inequalities and promote pay equity for all New Yorkers. However, some employers are realizing that one of the unintended outcomes of complying with the law may be pay compression.
